State Agency & Regulatory Framework
Idaho has no magnet fishing-specific statute. IDFG's extensive public fishing access program provides numerous legal entry points to Idaho waterways. The Snake River and its impoundments involve USACE, Bureau of Reclamation, and Idaho Power Company management — check with the relevant entity for specific areas. Idaho's antiquity laws protect archaeological resources on state land. The Snake River corridor has significant historical importance and several areas with documented UXO from WWII-era training activities.
State Park Policy
Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation has not issued a magnet fishing prohibition. Idaho's outdoor recreation culture is generally permissive for waterway activities at established access points. Contact specific park offices.
Waterway Access & Navigability
Idaho's navigable waterways — the Snake River, Clearwater, Salmon, and Boise Rivers — have public surface rights. Idaho applies a state navigability test as well as the federal standard. Public fishing access is extensive through IDFG's Access YES! program, which funds public fishing access on private land.
