State Agency & Regulatory Framework
Alabama has no state statute specifically addressing magnet fishing. The activity is governed by general waterway access law, found property statutes (Code of Alabama § 35-12-1 et seq.), and ADCNR regulations for wildlife management areas. On WMAs managed by ADCNR, fishing access areas are generally accessible for magnet fishing. The Alabama Historical Commission oversees archaeological resources on state land under the Alabama Historic Preservation Program.
State Park Policy
Alabama State Parks has no system-wide ban on magnet fishing. Individual park managers have discretion — contact the specific park office before visiting.
Waterway Access & Navigability
Alabama's major rivers — the Alabama, Tombigbee, Tennessee, and Coosa — are federally navigable. Public surface access is well-established on these waterways. Smaller tributary streams may be non-navigable; riparian rights apply.
